‘I am not a big fan’: Adebayor’s comments on Arsenal star before NLD win come back to bite him

Arsenal fans will still be revelling in their monumental win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

With the Premier League title on the line and nothing but a win needed, they rocked up to their neighbours’ backyard and put on a show.

This was Arsenal at their best and they deserved the 3-2 win, although, towards the end, they made life difficult for themselves and it all started with that David Raya error.

You just know, this time last season, that game is being drawn, the team are dropping points and handing the title to Manchester City, but not this time around.

The likes of Declan Rice, William Saliba being fit, the introduction of Kai Havertz, the strong defence, the ability to play Thomas Partey and Rice together, and Takehiro Tomiyasu at full-back, to name a few, have all played their part in this.

Emmanuel Adebayor, who is one of the very few people to have represented Arsenal and Tottenham in this fixture, was a pundit for this game.

The former striker praised a certain Saka for his performance against his bitter rivals and how he is ‘one of the best in Europe’.

But before the match, he made some interesting comments about Havertz that came back to bite him.

Adebayor stated ‘I am not a big fan of the player’ whilst discussing the German being a number nine for Arsenal, as he told Premier League Productions (28/04/24 at 1:40 pm).

In the end, Havertz scored the goal to once again silence those who have doubted from the first minute he arrived from Chelsea and perhaps Adebayor should decide to become a fan of him now.

Kai Havertz scores again…

“He has adapted well,” said Adebayor about Havertz before Arsenal’s win over Tottenham. “I am not a big fan of the player, to be honest.

“He isn’t that strong and when you are playing up front for a team like Arsenal. First and foremost, you have to be strong and you have to be clever. He’s a very good player with the feet.

“Football is a game, whenever you score, you are the hero and when you don’t score, then you are the villain. If he doesn’t score and Arsenal ends up losing, then the fans won’t be happy about it. But if he manages to score a goal and get a win for his team, as he is doing at the end of the season for his team, then he will be the hero.”

Kai Havertz the hero

Well, he turned out to be a hero and now Arsenal fans will love him forever because he has scored a goal in a north London derby win, and that away from home!

What you also shouldn’t forget is his assist for Saka’s goal. That was a quick break from Arsenal and they proved to be ruthless in transition.

All that space in behind left by Tottenham’s fullbacks bombing forward proved to be a disaster for Ange Postecoglou.

And now that Arsenal have taken three points off their rivals again, they will now be relying on their neighbours to get something from Manchester City.
