Sacha Kljestan has said Lionel Messi is now doing something at Inter Miami that no other MLS player can do.
The Argentine international was on fire yet again on Saturday as Messi scored a brace and assisted two more goals in a 4-1 win against the New England Revolution, breaking another MLS record in the process.
Sending Inter Miami clear at the top of the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings, Messi’s performance at Gillette Stadium was one of the forward’s best this season, with New England fans seen bowing towards the 36-year-old.
And MLS legend Kljestan now thinks Messi is doing something that nobody is capable of in the division.
Messi is getting the best out of Inter Miami stars better than anyone in MLS
Speaking on MLS Wrap-Up, the pundit suggested that Messi is the best player in the league for making his teammates look better, with a number of Inter Miami players looking fantastic when playing alongside the forward.
Last year saw the likes of Robert Taylor and Benjamin Cremaschi becoming stars in MLS after Messi’s arrival, and it’s no real surprise to see the pair as well as the likes of Diego Gomez flourish this season when the Argentine is on the pitch.
Kljestan said when asked how Messi is getting the best out of his Inter Miami teammates: “We spoke about a player like Emil Forsberg who makes the players around him better.
“Messi is the best one by far in MLS, he is the best player, yes, but he makes everyone around him better, he raises the level of players who were once seen as after-thoughts in MLS to now key contributors for a team that we now think could go on to win the championship.”
Messi’s influence could create new superstars in America
As previously mentioned, a number of Inter Miami players have really stepped up since Messi’s arrival, and it wouldn’t be a huge shock if a superstar or two were to be born from playing alongside the reigning Ballon d’Or holder.
Something as simple as training every day with one of the greatest of all time in Messi can help some players unlock aspects of the game once previously overlooked, with Inter Miami flourishing with the Argentine in the squad.
And if Messi can remain fit this season, there’s a real chance that Inter Miami could have an entire squad of MLS superstars of their own making, with some players making huge strides in their development in the last ten months.
