‘Look at Brendan Rodgers’: Neil McCann makes a bizarre claim about Celtic manager’s kit man altercation

The title race has been, for Celtic this season at least, a rollercoaster of a ride under Brendan Rodgers.

From having a healthy lead at the top of the table to horrendous injury issues affecting our form and then a poor run of results allowing Rangers to catch up and eventually overtake us, it has been a bit of a bumpy ride so far.

Now back on top after Rangers’ two massive slips against Dundee and Ross County, Celtic look favourites to retain the title with just four games to go.

But it was in the Scottish Cup where Brendan Rodgers hit the headlines. His altercation with kit man, Stevie Wright, was the talk of the Celtic town after the Celtic manager lost it as he interfered during an important team talk prior to the Aberdeen penalties.

And what Neil McCann had to say about that was quite bizarre, to say the least.

Rodgers feeling the ‘pressure’ after kit man blast

The former Rangers forward was speaking about how Rangers manager, Philippe Clement, is handling the pressure really well.

And instead of citing Clement’s lap of honour after the Ibrox Glasgow Derby or how he handled getting beat by Ross County as an example of Clement feeling the pressure, McCann used Rodgers’ altercation with the Celtic kit man to claim he was under pressure.

McCann said [Scottish Football Podcast], “But what I will say is, there’s still a lot of football to be played. There really is.

“And he [Philippe Clement] does keep a real level of balance. And I know sometimes of late after games, he seems a wee bit more emotional than others.

“Football can do that to you. Playing for one of these clubs when you’re going for the title, whether it be Rangers or Celtic, you can see it.

“Look at Brendan Rodgers in the same final last week with the kit man. That’s an element of pressure that sometimes just seeps in.

“You can be as cool as you like, but it starts to get to you.”

So Clement is ’emotional’ and Rodgers is feeling the ‘pressure’. Wow. What a verdict that is.

What makes these comments even more bizarre is that Rodgers looked calm and relaxed when he had the assembled journalists in stitches when he was asked about the Hampden incident in his pre-match Dundee press conference.

It really was a strange take from McCann whose former club’s manager’s behaviour over the last week or so would have been a perfect example to use of a manager who is really feeling the pressure of this title race.
