Ian Wright baffled by one Man Utd star’s decision-making vs Burnley at Old Trafford, he couldn’t believe it

Ian Wright has admitted that he was baffled at how one Manchester United star failed to prevent Sander Berge from walking right past him in the Burnley match.

Manchester United dropped further Premier League points on Saturday after the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw against Burnley at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s men finally managed to break the deadlock in the Premier League clash after Antony opened the scoring with a superb finish in the second half.

However, United’s lead lasted only eight minutes and Antony’s opener was cancelled out after Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni beat Andre Onana from the spot-kick.

Burnley were awarded a penalty after a VAR intervention deemed that Andre Onana cleaned out Zeki Amdouni during his clearance deep in the second half.

Casemiro was also at fault for putting United’s backline under pressure after his sloppy clearance forced Onana to charge out in a bid to clear the ball.

United’s top-four Premier League ambitions are over and the Red Devils are now unable to finish fourth after dropping costly points in recent weeks.

Erik ten Hag’s side are sixth in the Premier League table with four matches remaining, with fourth-place Aston Villa 13 points clear of United.

Wright critical of Man Utd star

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will be hopeful of capturing the FA Cup trophy later this season amid an underwhelming campaign from his side.

The Red Devils will meet Manchester City in the final at Wembley next month, with the FA Cup offering Ten Hag a chance to finish the season on a high note.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Ian Wright dropped his two cents on United’s performance against Burnley and the sloppiness of Ten Hag’s men at times.

The Arsenal legend spotlighted Casemiro during his analysis, with the United star playing as a makeshift centre-back for the third match running.

Wright called out the 32-year-old United midfielder for allowing Sander Berge to effortlessly ‘walk’ past him during one moment in the contest at Old Trafford.

“If you’re playing against Man United, you’re probably going to get opportunities,” he said (via the Metro).

“One throw [from the goalkeeper] and straight into the back four.

“Look at this from Man United, you can see where Kobbie Mainoo is coming from, you can see where Christian Eriksen is – all of them taken out with one pass.

“This is just how easy you can get past the midfield [of Man United], this is Sander Berge with Casemiro.

“Now he’s just got to stop and not let him come through, but he [Berge] has just walked past him.

“They’ve had more possession than United at Old Trafford. Burnley. Second from bottom.

“I think they were very unlucky not to win this game. They could have won it with better finishing.”

Ten Hag on Man Utd vs Burnley

Speaking after the match, Ten Hag insisted that he was far from pleased with United slipping up in the final minutes against Burnley at Old Trafford.

“No. Definitely not [happy with the result]. Of course, we are disappointed,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“If, over a long period in the game, when you control and dominate the game, when you create loads of chances and put yourself in a winning position but then give it away in the end.”
