'A massive problem': Chris Sutton says 27-year-old Tottenham player is a major issue for Postecoglou right now

Chris Sutton has been speaking about the Arsenal and Tottenham game this weekend and insisted Spurs have a real problem player on their hands.

Tottenham tried to fight back from 3-0 down but still lost in the end as goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and an own goal proved enough for the Gunners.

Tottenham’s Champions League hopes are now in limbo and with Aston Villa continuing to pick up results, there’s a real chance Unai Emery’s men win out.

For Spurs and Ange Postecoglou, the summer will represent a real chance to look back and reflect on a first year in charge for the Aussie and where to go next.

Of course, addressing positions for improvement is one thing Ange will be doing.

And speaking about goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, Chris Sutton has suggested that the Italian might well have been found out and is now becoming a problem for Spurs.

Chris Sutton says Vicario is becoming a problem for Tottenham

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live tonight (7:44pm), Sutton had some harsh words for the Italian.

“I think the goalkeeper is a problem. I think the goalkeeper, who we have all given praise for the way he can play out from the back, the way that he sweeps at the back, but I do think that teams like Arsenal would have done the homework and targeted Vicario because he looks…I can’t remember the team earlier this season where he was very shaky against, but there was one particular game where he got sort of found out, didn’t he? And I think that would be sort of passed around, coaches would have gotten onto it and will know that he doesn’t want to come, and I think it’s a massive problem if teams know your goalkeeper is vulnerable and uncertain,” Sutton said.

Replacement or competition needed for Vicario

Like a lot of good goalkeepers, they can get too comfortable in their position and this might be happening with Vicario now he’s settled in.

Sure, he’s had a good enough first season in England but the errors have crept in of late and he was an issue against the Gunners this weekend.

As Sutton says, Arsenal simply latched onto the fact he was having a bit of a nightmare from set-pieces and they simply put it on him and succeeded.

Tottenham might not need a new number one. But if a chance to sign a top number two comes up who can really push Vicario, then it might be something the club really do consider.
