Exclusive: Norwich and Ipswich will battle to sign Premier League winger on a free transfer

TBR Football understands a host of clubs, including East Anglian giants Ipswich Town and Norwich City are ready to battle it out for Jamaican international Jamal Lowe this summer.

Lowe is currently finishing a loan stint at Swansea City – who he joined in the summer from Premier League Bournemouth.

The 29-year-old, who has played across the front-line for The Swans, has enjoyed a good season in South Wales with nine goals and three assists to his name.

Jamaican international Lowe is set to be available on a free transfer with his contract expiring at the end of the season and Swansea would love to make deal permanent.

However, TBR understands that Swansea’s limited budget heading into the summer makes it unlikely they can match the offers set to come Lowe’s way.

“I think it’s going to be difficult because Jamal is on a Premier League salary. That could be a real issue,” admitted Swansea boss Luke Williams recently quoted by the Daily Echo.

“Jamal’s contract in his first spell here was probably when the club were still working almost on a Premier League budget. Then he went on (to Cherries) still on a Premier League level.

“But this club is no longer operating at that level. I think we have to be clear about what it’s going to look like if we are going to do anything at all.”

A host of clubs are chasing Jamal Lowe’s signature

TBR, though, can reveal that whilst Swansea are struggling to come up with an offer – others are keen to land him.

They include East Anglian duo Ipswich and Norwich, whilst fellow Championship outfits Middlesbrough, Millwall and Watford are also keen.

However, TBR can also reveal that newly promoted duo Derby and Portsmouth are keen for talks.

A return to Fratton Park could be an intriguing option for Lowe – as he remains a cult figure at the club having spent nearly three years with Pompey, helping them win League Two and the EFL Trophy during his spell.
