'Listen': Jamie Vardy drops subtle hint on his Leicester future after sealing Championship title vs Preston

Leicester City wrapped up the Championship title with a convincing 3-0 win against Preston North End at Deepdale on Monday evening.

Leicester have become the first side in English football history to win eight second-tier titles, surpassing Manchester City’s record of seven.

Enzo Maresca‘s side will now play host to Blackburn Rovers at King Power Stadium on Saturday with the trophy already decked out in blue ready to lift in front of the Foxes faithful.

The East Midlanders have the chance to amass 100 points with victory and end the season with real momentum heading into the Premier League campaign that awaits them in August.

The Foxes brushed aside the hosts in style, with Jamie Vardy opening the scoring to net his 19th goal of the season.

The veteran striker added a second shortly after halftime to take his tally to 20, which is an extraordinary tally given he’s only started 19 games. Vardy could’ve had a hat-trick had it not been for a fine Freddie Woodman save.

Academy graduate Kasey McAteer, who recently returned from injury, scored the third and rounded off the marvellous performance, heading home Abdul Fatawu‘s teasing cross.

Fatawu has now recorded a whopping 13 assists, which is only two behind the top playmaker Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Vardy is out of contract in the summer and fans have long been calling for his deal to be extended for at least another year.

Sky Sports reporters asked the 37-year-old if he fancies another crack at the Premier League and he responded with a subtle hint, saying: “Listen I’m not ready to hang the boots up, legs feel fine.

“Feel as fit as I ever have, so we’ll just see what happens.”

Vardy will likely need to take a pay cut to stay on, as City are still in the midst of financial concerns but Maresca will certainly be desperate to keep him.

The prolific forward still has plenty left to give and many would argue he’s more than capable of notching double figures back in the top-flight if he’s given the minutes.

A telling few weeks await.
