33-year-old killed in single-car crash on South Jersey highway, cops say

A driver died on Sunday night following a single-vehicle crash on a South Jersey highway, officials said.

The car was found engulfed in flames around 10:30 p.m. on the grass along Route 30 in Absecon near Delilah Road, the Absecon Police Department said in a news release. A city police officer first noticed the car fire while patrolling the highway.

Officers on the scene attempted life-saving measures on the driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, and attempted to contain the flames. The fire was then extinguished by responding firefighters, authorities said.

The driver, Craig G. Doka, 33, of Oak Ridge, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash, but have said that no other vehicles were involved.

The Absecon Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call Ptl. Joseph Akeret at 609-641-0667, ext. 214.
