Time for science at Hunstanton’s Smithdon High School as they help young students with practical experiments

Budding scientists from a secondary school worked with younger pupils on a series of time-based experiments.

Year Eight and Nine students from Hunstanton’s Smithdon High School visited local junior schools to work with youngsters on some practical science experiments examining the theme of time as part of the school’s British Science Week activities.

They were supported by the school’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) lead Veronica Soper, who helped with preparation and accompanied them on the trips.

Schools visited by the Smithdon scientists, who worked in teams of ten, included those in Dersingham, Ingoldisthorpe, Hunstanton, Docking, Sandringham, and Flitcham - as well as fellow West Norfolk Academies Trust members Heacham Junior and Snettisham Primary.

Claire Pike, head of science at Smithdon, said: “The students had been attending STEM Club with Mrs Soper in school, designing and perfecting the experiments.

“Some of our students remember older students going into their junior school while they were there, and really enjoyed being able to do this themselves.”
