'Sensational' Chelsea player not spotted in training ahead of Premier League match vs Tottenham on Thursday

One key Chelsea player has now not been seen in training in the build up to the club’s return to Premier Legaue action later this week.

Pictures on the 5th Stand App didn’t show the player in question involved with the rest of his teammates, as a number of big stars made partial returns.

The Blues are preparing for the crucial London derby on Thursday against Tottenham, with it having massive implications on their hopes for qualifying for European football for next season.

Chelsea struggling with injuries

Injuries have played a real part in their inconsistent performances so far this season, with Mauricio Pochettino having to make tweaks every single game.

Last time out against Aston Villa, the boss had just 11 senior first team players to choose from, and not a single recognised right-back available for selection after injuries to Reece James and Malo Gusto.

The Frenchman in particular has been a crucial member of their side in what has been his first campaign as a Chelsea player.

His performances have seen him described as ‘sensational’ by Adrian Clarke, with him deputising for the injured club captain brilliantly.

Malo Gusto not spotted in training

However, his recent issue has seen him ruled out recently, with the player himself admitting he would be facing a race against time to be fit for the crucial game.

Those dim chances may have been dealt another blow, with him not spotted in training just days before the fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino has looked to start a combination of his centre-backs in the position this season when needed, with Trevoh Chalobah featuring there on Saturday.

Previously though, it has been Alfie Gilchrist and Axel Disasi in the role, and both seem fit and able to feature if needed.

However, the impressive display of the Englishman last time out should be enough for the manager to keep faith in him if Gusto is not available.
