Ben Foster blasts Man Utd player for 'horrific' mistake in draw v Burnley, he's not impressed with Andre Onana either

An injury-hit Manchester United side found it tough going against Burnley at the weekend with a fairly dismal late season performance.

Burnley had everything to play for at the weekend as they scrapped for points to try and stave off relegation, against the odds.

Manchester United were just trying to get through it, and laboured to a 1-1 draw. Antony had given the Red Devils the lead.

This lead was surrendered in the 87th minute when Andre Onana conceded a penalty in the 87th minute.

Casemiro mistake criticised

Andre Onana took out Burnley forward Zeki Amdouni, clattering him to he fround as he attempted to clear an aerial ball.

Speaking to The United Stand, former goalkeeper Ben Foster, pinned the blame for the goal squarely on Casemiro.

It was Casemiro’s header back towards goal which created the uncertainty and led Onana to commit the foul.

Foster said he was confused by Casemiro’s decision making and poor execution.

He said: “The header back is horrific. Honestly, I don’t know what you are thinking of trying to do there. Trying to be clever, trying to be too calm and casual and laid back.

“You can’t do that at any minute of the game, from an experienced player as well. I know he’s not a centre-back but still, you just can’t go doing that kind of thing.”

Foster had previously slammed Casemiro as an ‘absolute disgrace’ for his role in Bournemouth’s second goal against Manchester United in the 2-2 draw on the south coast earlier this month.

If that was a little harsh, his questioning of Casemiro’s header against Burnley was more than fair, it was clearly an error. The Brazilian should have nodded the ball away from goal, and not towards it.

Andre Onana role scrutinised

Goalkeeper Andre Onana was not spared criticism, with Foster citing the goal as an ‘accumulation of mistakes’.

He pointed out: “Then the mistake comes from Onana as well, where I think he as a goalkeeper needs to read that the header back is a loopy one, its a slow one. He can see Wan-Bissaka is underneath it, Maguire’s coming across.

“I think he just has to hold where he is and go ‘right, I’m gonna leave you do deal with this, Wan-Bissaka has got an incredible leap as well.”

The incident was replayed on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, where there was little sympathy for Onana. It was noted that while he got away with one against Wolves on the season’s opening weekend, this time the right decision was made to call a penalty against him.

There’s no doubt he got his timing all wrong, but if not for Casemiro, he would not have been in the position.
