'My information': David Ornstein says he's now hearing something 'quite different' about Mo Salah's future

It has been a busy few days of news for Liverpool’s talismanic forward Mohamed Salah.

The sight of Salah arguing on the touchline with Jurgen Klopp on Saturday was a particularly sad one and has obviously dominated headlines.

With Liverpool’s season falling apart and with Klopp on the way out, this was never how any of it was supposed to end this year. As Ian Wright put it, it was ‘heart-breaking’ to watch.

Prior to that incident, the expectation had been that Salah would depart Anfield along with his manager this summer. However, that was turned on it’s head with big news on Monday. The Egyptian now looks set to stay.

In light of such news, journalist David Ornstein has been giving his take on proceedings. And the transfer guru has claimed to have heard something ‘quite different’ to the general perception.

What has been said about Mo Salah’s future

It really was not a good look for Salah on Saturday. Although there was frustration and wrongdoing on both sides of the argument, you won’t find many who will come down favouring player over manager.

The bottom line has been that Mo has not been good enough recently. As Liverpool’s season has faltered, they’ve needed their star man to show up. Instead, in the words of Steve Nicol, he’s ‘disappeared off the face of the earth.’

Salah’s spat with Klopp only fuelled the feeling that the 31-year-old has already mentally checked out of the team he’s represented with such distinction for seven years.

However, it turns out that we all may have been wrong after all. Speaking on The Daily Football Briefing from The Athletic, Ornstein says that his information is now that Salah is ‘fully committed’ to life at Anfield.

“Despite the public perception being that Salah is heading to the exit door, my information is quite different from that,” explained the journalist.

“And it’s that Salah has expressed absolutely no intention to depart. To the contrary, that he remains fully committed to Liverpool.”

What role could Salah play under Arne Slot

This was a really pleasant surprise to hear for Liverpool fans this week. After a miserable time of it recently, something positive was needed.

And although he has been poor of late, Salah staying is undoubtedly a huge positive for the Reds. They’ll start off the Arne Slot era with their Egyptian King after all.

With Slot employing slightly different tactics to Klopp, we think the Dutchman could look to play Salah more centrally.

This could accentuate Mo’s footballing brain rather than relying on his slightly declining pace from wide.

With an attacking midfielder – maybe Alexis Mac Allister – in behind him and two pacy forwards supporting from wide, it’s exciting to see where Salah will ‘slot’ in. Great news to kick off the summer.
