Liverpool told they will need to spend £51m to sign midfielder Arne Slot loves

Liverpool will need to spend £51m this summer in order to land a player Arne Slot has worked with in the past.

Despite the myriad of links to Arne Slot’s current players at Feyenoord, it’s unlikely that Liverpool will bring any of the Dutchman’s current players to Anfield.

Firstly, Slot will be named as the club’s head-coach, rather than manager, which means he will have less to say when it comes to recruitment.

It is moot whether he will want to bring in any of his own players in the first place. But the fact that he will have less responsibility when it comes to recruitment makes things even more unlikely.

That doesn’t mean that the club cannot recruit his former players though. If the recruitment team deems one of them good enough or the right fit, Liverpool could still pursue a move.

And there is one former Slot player, who has been on the club’s radar for some time.

Teun Koopmeiners to Liverpool latest

The player in question is of course Teun Koopmeiners, who Slot worked with at AZ Alkmaar, and who is highly regarded by the new Liverpool manager.

Under Slot, Koopmeiners scored 21 goals and registered seven assists in 58 matches, and was Slot’s captain for AZ.

He’s also been on Liverpool’s radar for some time. The club’s scouts have tracked him since his AZ Alkmaar days, and he’s caught the eye against the Reds for Atalanta in the Europa League recently.

Koopmeiners is still attracting interest from Liverpool according to Italian publication Tutto Juve, which the site claiming the Reds will need to pay 60 million Euros, which is roughly £51m to land him from Atalanta.

Will Liverpool sign Teun Koopmeiners this summer

Koopmeiners is a fantastic player and with his links to Arne Slot, it would definitely make sense to target a player of his ilk.

He’s someone who can play the deep lying midfield role in Slot’s system, while also being comfortable to play higher up the pitch.

The only problem for Liverpool is that there are a lot of similar profiles already in the squad. What Liverpool need the most in midfield is a destroyed, and Koopmeiners does not fit that profile.

He would therefore be a luxury signing, rather than of the utmost importance. Unless, some midfielders leave this summer we cannot see this one happening.
