Wolves may reignite interest in 'impressive' £90k-a-week PL ace after surprise claim about £29m man - opinion

Wolves will surely be hoping to make a number of new signings this summer – and it may well be the club reignite interest in a previous target.

It will be Gary O’Neil‘s first summer window, and the manager will no doubt be keen to get several new faces in.

We have heard the manager express his frustrations a few times publicly over the last couple of months about the size of the squad.

He needs backing this summer by Fosun, if he is to take this team to the next level. There will probably be a couple of sales, but there should be money for him to spend to get that squad packed out.

It will be very interesting to see who Wolves make a move for. One man the club were said to be interested in last summer was Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Manchester United, and it could be that he becomes of interest again this time around…

It was first claimed that Wolves had interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka in December 2022. Julen Lopetegui had just arrived at the club, and the former Crystal Palace man was thought to be someone he liked.

Shortly after that first link, there was word of an asking price, with Manchester United wanting somewhere around £25 million, for a player they spent £50 million on.

Since those links to Wolves, Wan-Bissaka has remained at United.

This season, he has found himself playing on the left side at times amid a shortage of options, with Diogo Dalot operating on the right.

Injury problems have limited him to 25 appearances across all competitions, but Erik ten Hag has seemed to like what he’s brought to the table in recent weeks.

It has been reported in recent days by the Telegraph that Manchester United – who were recently bought for a minority share by INEOS – will listen to offers for most of their players this summer, as they seek a fresh start.

Given this, it might be that Wolves make some inquiries about Wan-Bissaka, especially in light of some transfer reports about two current Wolves stars.

Wan-Bissaka could be Semedo replacement

It was somewhat surprisingly reported yesterday that Nelson Semedo has now emerged as a target for clubs in Saudi Arabia.

O’Neil probably doesn’t want to lose the Portugal international, given how good he’s been this term, but money talks and the club may be open to cashing in. Semedo may also fancy a slice of the riches on offer in the Middle East.

If Semedo goes, £90,000-a-week man Wan-Bissaka might just be someone Wolves move to replace him with. He’s more of an out-and-out defender than Semedo, so it would be a change of pace.

According to The Coaches Voice, Wan-Bissaka ‘rarely misses the mark with a slide tackle, and his long legs, impressive pace and vast reach mean as a last resort, his tackling will prevent most opponents from getting past him’.

Recently, there have also been reports claiming Manchester United are interested in Max Kilman.

As with Semedo, O’Neil is probably not too keen to lose the 26-year-old. But perhaps there would be scope to get Wan-Bissaka in as part of a player-plus-cash deal.
