Wolves must join hunt for £40k-a-week PL star Guardiola branded 'quality', set to become free agent - opinion

Wolves fans are hoping to see some cash being flashed this summer – but there is one player out there who’s set to become a free agent that Gary O’Neil should be all over.

This term, O’Neil has had just four centre-backs at his disposal.

Craig Dawson, Max Kilman, Toti Gomes and Santi Bueno have all had good seasons. Bueno is still finding his feet and has played a lot less than the other three, but the signs are promising over the Uruguay international.

Wanderers have gotten a bit lucky regarding injuries in this position. With Wolves playing three defenders at a time in games, it has been a surprise that the four players have been available for most of the season.

Dawson recently underwent surgery and Bueno now has a minor hamstring injury, but the quartet have mostly been available this season.

But next term O’Neil will probably want more options – and Tosin Adarabioyo should be someone he looks at…

Realistically, Dawson needs a long-term replacement.

The 33-year-old has been brilliant since coming to Molineux, but he is approaching his mid-thirties now, and has also just had groin surgery.

It would be sensible for Wolves to sign someone this summer.

There has been talk of Yerson Mosquera coming back to the club and seemingly, O’Neil is keen to cast his eye over the Colombia international. But Wolves may actually need one more in addition to the youngster.

Fulham star Tosin Adarabioyo could well be someone worth looking at.

According to Caught Offside, there is strong competition for the player right now, with Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United all keen.

Apparently, he has ‘no plans’ to sign an extension with Fulham, meaning he will become a free agent in the summer. And Wolves should be all over this, because Tosin is a solid Premier League centre-back.

The former Manchester City youngster was previously talked up by Pep Guardiola, who said of him (MEN): “He has all the quality. He is fast. He is faster than the people can believe it and he’s strong in the air. He has the quality to look behind the line for the next step, the next pass. He has a lot of things to improve on and I hope I can help him to develop his skills.”

Since that verdict, £40,000-a-week ace Tosin has gone on to make 78 Premier League appearances, and 132 in total for Fulham.

Wolves linked before

Tosin is a player Wolves have reportedly shown interest in before.

Back in 2021, it was suggested that Tosin was a target for Wolves just before the transfer deadline that summer.

Then last summer, Wolves were linked again. This was around the time that Napoli were showing an interest in captain Max Kilman.

So seemingly, he is a player who has been on the transfer radar at Molineux for some time, and with his contract running out, there could finally be a chance to get him.

He will have options, but Wolves could be a good move for him. Wanderers are on the up under an exciting young English manager, and you would imagine Tosin would likely get more regular minutes than at some of the other clubs mentioned.
