Report: Everton in hunt to sign £4m striker who is being compared with Mario Mandzukic

Now that Everton’s Premier League survival has been secured, attention will turn to what could be another vital summer of recruitment.

Evertonians are entirely aware of the club’s transfer failings in recent years. Too many players have come through the door for big money, taking up considerable wages and offering next to nothing on the pitch.

Neal Maupay and Dele Alli are two excellent recent examples. However, there have been one or two impressive pieces of business conducted in recent times.

Amadou Onana has undoubtedly lived up to his price tag, and the same can now be said of Dwight McNeil, who is now in the form of his Everton career.

There are sporadic examples of the Toffees getting their recruitment right – it’s now executing it on a more regular basis.

Premier League survival means the board can now begin to think about what could take place in the summer.

Transfer rumours have already begun to emerge; the latest talk comes from Italy.

According to Italian publication Sport Italia, the Toffees are one of a host of clubs interested in Osijek forward Anton Matković.

The Croatian forward – born in 2006 – has attracted attention from several Italian clubs, including AC Milan and Atalanta.

However, Premier League interest has also emerged, with Everton and Fulham watching developments.

Who is Everton target Anton Matkovic?

According to Sport Italia, Matkovic stands at 191 centimetres high and has already been capped by the Croatian under-19 national team.

Furthermore, in his home country, there have also been comparisons made to former Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic.

Mandzukic was known for his towering heading ability and scored a stunning overhead kick for Juventus during the 2017 Champions League final in Cardiff.

His compatriot Matkovic is believed to be more versatile. The 18-year-old has featured out wide and has a turn of pace, something that couldn’t be said of Mandzukic.

Adding another younger talent near the top end of the pitch could prove to be a smart piece of business for the Goodison Park hierarchy.
