What Tottenham did to issue dig at Arsenal after full-time in North London Derby defeat

Tottenham Hotspur attempted to land a final dig on their north London rivals after full-time on Sunday.

It was not a North London Derby that many at Tottenham will want to remember as Arsenal made it two consecutive wins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Goals from Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son gave Spurs a glimmer of hope but the damage was done in the first 45 minutes.

The Lilywhites now find themselves sat in fifth spot with Europa League football now looking like their best possible finish.

But that would still mark progression under Ange Postecoglou in his first season and could offer Spurs a real shot at major silverware.

Although it was not three points on the weekend for Spurs, it did not stop them giving it a real good go in the second half.

And after full-time, the club did try and land a subtle blow on their local rivals with something which they did after the whistle.

What Tottenham did after full-time to issue blow on Arsenal

Spurs really were not at it in the first half with their inability to defend corners proving an issue once again.

And their late fight towards the end of the game after Son slammed home his penalty was not enough to claim a point from the game.

Postecoglou’s side may feel hard done by with some of the refereeing decisions which went against them on the day.

But they only have themselves to blame as they fail to learn from their previous errors which have mainly come from set pieces.

Although Spurs were unable to claim the points on Sunday afternoon, it did not stop the club trying to issue a dig to the travelling fans.

According to the Daily Mail, after the game finished, Spurs immediately pressed play on a song over their PR system.

The song in questions was titled ‘Munich’ by the Editors which is likely to be a blow to the Gunners after their recent Champions League elimination.

Mikel Arteta’s side saw their European hopes crushed at the hands of a Bayern Munich side which currently has both Harry Kane and Eric Dier playing a big role in the starting XI.

Tottenham’s record goalscorer even scored in the first leg at the Emirates as Bayern won 3-2 on aggregate.

Ange Postecoglou has to learn from this season’s cup errors

Until recently, the league campaign was going better than most expected in north London and only a few recent results have derailed a Champions League-bound season.

But the real concerns have come in Tottenham’s cup runs which have seen the Lilywhites crash out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the early stages.

This is something which Postecoglou will have to learn from ahead of next season and potentially look to this summer as an opportunity to bolster his squad to compete on multiple fronts.

Spurs have not had to consider European football in their schedule this season but still struggled in the cup competitions.

The Europa League could offer Spurs with a big opportunity to get their hands on a European trophy, but Postecoglou will have to manage his squad much better to do so.
