Report: Besiktas target 31-year-old Wolves star ahead of summer with ‘positive’ contact now reported

Wolves are in for an interesting summer at Molineux, with the future of Pablo Sarabia now under question with reports linking the Spaniard to Besiktas.

Gary O’Neil will hope that the summer transfer window can deliver a host of reinforcements to Molineux, as Wolves continue to navigate the 2023/24 campaign with a limited squad.

While the primary focus will be incomings at the Midlands club, who will look to progress further under the manager’s guidance, there could also be some exits at the end of this season.

There has already been speculation regarding the futures of Pedro Neto, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Nelson Semedo and Joao Gomes, with all players being key to O’Neil’s success this term.

Reports this week have now added another squad name to the Molineux wanted list, with Pablo Sarabia becoming the subject of a potential transfer this summer.

Besiktas make contact with Pablo Sarabia over summer exit from Wolves

As reported by Turkish news outlet, Turkiye Gazetesi, Besiktas have made contact with Sarabia’s representatives, with ‘first meetings’ said to be ‘positive’.

It’s claimed that the Super Lig giants see themselves at an ‘advantage’ in a potential deal as the Spaniard ‘wants a team’ that competes in Europe, something that Turkiye Gazetesi details Wolves can’t achieve.

The report adds that the 31-year-old’s ability appeals to what Besiktas want to add to their squad, with the most important point being that the Eagles aim to loan the Spain international until his contract ends at Wolves in 2025.

Official negotiations ‘will begin’ when the 2023/24 season ends, with it clear that Besiktas are looking to approach Wolves to learn about the potential availability of Sarabia.

Should Wolves sell Pablo Sarabia in the summer?

If Sarabia leaving was discussed a few months ago, many would have declined the prospect of the 31-year-old departing however, his recent form has been far from desirable in O’Neil’s squad.

Earlier this month, journalist Liam Keen described the Spaniard as being “nowhere near” the level of physicality required to play in the Premier League, with his displays not improving as he was criticised only last week for his performance against Bournemouth.

Based on his lack of conviction when Wolves need him most due to their lack of depth, it could be a positive thing to let go of Sarabia, who would free the club of paying an eye-watering £90k-a-week to maintain his services.

A potential transfer would of course, largely depend on if Wolves can sign reinforcements to replace his position in the squad in the summer, with his time at Molineux surely nearing an end with next season being the last on his contract.
