Leeds United have the perfect opportunity to sign 25-year-old on a free this summer - opinion

The free agent market could prove useful to Leeds United this summer regardless of the division they are in.

With the season now in its final week, it is still uncertain as to what division Leeds will be playing in next season and it will be important for those behind-the-scenes to be putting plans in place for both eventualities.

Leeds currently sit second in the Championship but do not have automatic promotion in their own hands with Ipswich Town playing their game in hand tonight.

Ipswich are behind Leeds only on goal difference and know avoiding defeat will put them in the box seat on the final day, when they host all but relegated Huddersfield Town.

If Leeds were to remain in the Championship, it would all but certainly lead to the sales of a few key players such as Crysencio Summerville in order to offset the £190 million in unpaid transfer instalments currently owed by the club.

On the other hand, an instant return to the Premier League would setup a far more exciting summer in terms of what they can spend. However, that doesn’t mean they should disregard any potential free transfers.

Callum O’Hare would be perfect free transfer for Leeds this summer

The number 10 position is an area Daniel Farke was desperate to strengthen last summer. But after failing to bring in Nadiem Amiri from Bayer Leverkusen, one has never arrived.

Georginio Rutter has played most of the second half of the season there but the stats actually show he was more effective when playing as a striker.

With that in mind, Leeds just have not had a natural creative central attacking player all season, as proven by the fact none of their four midfielders have even scored a goal this season.

Regardless of this season’s outcome that must be addressed this summer and one player who would be the perfect addition for Leeds is Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare.

Leeds will be hoping O’Hare and his teammates do them a favour this evening but it has already been reported by several sources he will not be extending his contract with the Sky Blues.

That means he is also but certainly set to leave on a free transfer in the next two months, with clubs such as Southampton and West Ham already taking a look, as per the Sun.

The 25-year-old is very much a natural number 10 and has 10 goals across 34 appearances in all competitions, as well as four assists.

Though it may be difficult if Leeds remain in the Championship, he is undoubtedly a player they have to target this summer.

Leeds proved last summer with the signing of Joel Piroe they can beat off Premier League competition for players even as a second-tier club, amid interest from the likes of Sheffield United.
