Trump fined $9,000 for violating gag order to stop him attacking jurors and witnesses

Donald Trump has been fined £9,000 (£7,179)for nine violations of his gag order in his criminal money trial in New York.

Judge Juan Merchan imposed a financial penalty of $1,000 (£799) per violation after prosecutors accused the former president of multiple breaches.

He also warned that Trump could be placed in jail if he wilfully violates court orders again.

Judge Merchan said: “The defendant is hereby warned that the Court will not tolerate continued willful violations of its lawful orders, and that if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances, it will impose an incarceratory punishment.”
