15 events across Hertfordshire celebrate National Walking Month in May

A three-mile stroll in Bishop’s Stortford is one of 15 events across Hertfordshire celebrating National Walking Month on Wednesday, May 1.

Participants should meet at the car park opposite the St Barnabas Centre at St James the Great Church, Thorley, at 10am.

The Herts Health Walk is free to join and will take around an hour. Its difficulty rating is Grade 3 - moderate hills, faster pace and possible stiles.

Herts Health Walks

Last year, 250 people joined the countywide event and this year the organisers are hoping for 300.

Each Hertfordshire County Council Health Walk is led by friendly volunteers, who in total provided 13,000 hours to Hertfordshire Health Walks in 2023. They are trained to Ramblers UK standard.

Walks range from 20 to 30-minute strolls across flat terrain with regular stops to moderate hills with faster pace, all the way through to five to six-mile progression walks.
