Report: West Ham United manager David Moyes wants to sign a 23-year-old with 'dangerous speed'

West Ham United have one eye on the fast-approaching summer transfer window with the season drawing to a close.

David Moyes‘ side are out of the Europa League but still have the chance to end the season on a high by finishing in the European spots.

The Hammers currently reside in eighth place, four points adrift of seventh-placed Newcastle United and five from sixth-placed Manchester United.

It’s been an inconsistent campaign and one that has put huge pressure on Moyes but if they can just sneak into the UEFA Conference League, it’d have to be considered a success, particularly after battling relegation for a time last term.

As the season nears an end, attention is starting to turn towards the summer transfer window and Moyes will be keen to add to his squad.

What areas do West Ham need to strengthen

It’s become pretty evident, that West Ham need a quality number nine, as Jarrod Bowen, whilst he’s been excellent there, clearly isn’t a natural striker.

Dominic Solanke was linked with a move to the London Stadium last summer but that move failed to materialise.

Solanke has netted 20 goals across all competitions this season and certainly has to be on their list of targets.

As should another winger following Said Benrahma‘s departure to Lyon during the winter transfer window. The Algeria international doesn’t seem a part of Moyes’ plans.

With that said, Director of Football Tim Steidten has set his sights on a 23-year-old with ‘dangerous speed’.

West Ham want to sign Jamie Leweling

According to German outlet Sport Bild, Steidten has made an enquiry for VfB Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling, who is on loan from Union Berlin.

The jet-heeled winger wants to remain at Stuttgart, who currently reside third in the Bundesliga, but finances may prevent that.

The high-flying German outfit may not have the funds to outlay £5.1m on his option-to-buy clause, meaning West Ham could swoop in and land him for a reasonable fee.

Leweling has scored four goals whilst laying on seven assists this term and it is understood that West Ham chiefs admire his direct running.

It’s certainly a deal to watch.
