Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal star is one 'to watch' over exit after 'difficult season'

Arsenal now boast a fully fit squad, but this has not been the case for most of this season as several key players missed a lot of the campaign.

Jurrien Timber has been absent since the opening day, whilst Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe have hardly been seen amid injury and fitness struggles.

One player who has worked his way back into the starting XI is Thomas Partey, as he excelled in recent wins over Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at the base of midfield.

However, it still appears that despite his recent strong performances, that Arsenal are still prepared to let Partey go in the summer given his inability to stay fit.

Fabrizio Romano drops exit hint for Arsenal star Thomas Partey

In his Daily Briefing, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Partey’s future will be decided at the end of the season after what has been an injury-blighted campaign.

“Thomas Partey could be another name to watch. Arsenal are really happy with him when he’s on the pitch, but we know this has been a difficult season for him with injuries, and his contract is going to expire in summer 2025, so they will have to make a decision together. Nothing has been decided yet, but they will discuss the situation at the end of the season,” he claimed.

Despite his obvious talent and his return to form, Partey has just one year left on his deal, and Arsenal should not fall into the trap of relying on him again.

Partey has started just 52% of Arsenal’s matches since his arrival in 2020 amid constant injury struggles, and his absences earlier this season reportedly frustrated Mikel Arteta after disrupting his tactical plans.

Arsenal are seemingly set to keep Jorginho at the club after offering him a new deal, and with Martin Zubimendi among the midfielders linked with a move, they are seemingly ready to let Partey leave, which would also mean that they can reduce their wage bill and earn a fee for a player who would otherwise leave for free next year.

Partey’s performances at the base of midfield have been strong in the last three years, but it would be naive to rely on him being able to stay fit for the majority of next season, and an exit could be the best solution.
