Russian forces are storming Nestryha island, which has recently been under the control of the Ukrainian army, stated Dmytro Pletenchuk, head of the Center for Strategic Communications of the Southern Defense Forces.

“This morning they made two assaults on Nestryha, both unsuccessful. They retreated with losses without success. This is the last island from the settlement of Veletenske - the district of Veletenske and Kizomys, not far from them. In fact, it is the last island before the river mouth,” said Pletenchuk.

According to him, it is important for Ukraine to protect this territory from possible saboteurs and raids by the Russian forces. This was done by de-occupying the island.

Pletenchuk added that the situation in the Krynky district remains difficult. Ukrainian marines are acting autonomously there.

He said the logistics there are very complicated, and that's why rotation and evacuation are problematic. However, marines continue to hold their positions despite the fact that the enemy forces outnumber them.

Liberation of Nestryha Island

On April 28, Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Ukrainian soldiers had managed to take control of Nestryha Island in the Kherson region.

This happened after they advanced in the vicinity of Veletenske settlement in the Kherson region.
