‘I believe’: Declan Rice shares why he chose to join Arsenal over Man City

Declan Rice has shared why he chose to join Arsenal over Manchester City.

During the previous summer transfer window, both clubs were aiming to sign the midfielder from West Ham United.

After the Hammers rejected City’s offer of £90m, the north London club ultimately secured a deal for the Englishman worth an overall fee of £105m.

With both sides now fighting it out once again for the Premier League title, Rice has shared what swayed him to join Mikel Arteta’s side over the Treble winners.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, Rice had this to say when asked about the possibility of him joining the Manchester club last summer and why he chose to join Arsenal instead.

He said: “I know. But this project seemed more exciting and that’s why I chose to come to Arsenal, because I believe we’re on to big things here.”

Since joining the club, the 25-year-old has featured in all but one of Arsenal’s games in all competitions, starting 45 of the 48 matches he’s appeared in, scoring six goals and providing nine assists along the way.

This shows just how important the summer recruit has been for the title-chasing Gunners.

Should Rice have signed for City over Arsenal?

In terms of having a project to choose from, we feel that joining a side that have just won the Treble under a manager who has coached some of the best players of the past 15 years would be more exciting than joining a side who have only just become an outfit that fight for big titles.

With City having the chance to not only become the first side to win a fourth Premier League title in a row this season but also add another FA Cup to their cabinet, if Guardiola’s side were able to lift these trophies, this may give Rice the chance to reassess which side he should have joined last summer.
