Report: Why one club are now unlikely to pursue Conor Gallagher despite being interested in the Chelsea star

There could be a transfer tussle for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer.

However, one club, despite reportedly being interested in Conor Gallagher, are unlikely to get involved in it.

The 24-year-old will be a free agent in 2025. That means this summer could be Chelsea‘s last chance to make a good bit of money from him.

Gallagher has been a key player for the Blues this season, so Mauricio Pochettino will not be happy to see him go.

The Englishman has made 45 appearances in all competitions. Chelsea legend Joe Cole thinks he has been really “influential” under Pochettino.

Why one club are unlikely to pursue Conor Gallagher

While Gallagher may be about to enter the final year of his deal, signing him is still likely to be a very expensive operation.

One source from a club interested in the England international has told the Daily Mail that they fear that the Blues will demand more than £40m for him.

Because of that and Gallagher’s wage demands, the same source has stated that their team are unlikely to pursue the Chelsea man this summer.

It will be interesting to see if any club will be willing to pay more than £40m for Gallagher given that he could cost nothing next year.

Is Conor Gallagher worth more than £40m?

In this current market, probably. Gallagher is quite a well-rounded midfielder.

He works so hard on the pitch but is also able to contribute something in attack, something that he has been doing in the second half of this season.

His goal against Aston Villa over the weekend was great, while he netted in the 4-3 win versus Manchester United earlier in the month.

As per FBref, Gallagher has ranked in the 97th percentile for tackles and the 98th for interceptions among attacking midfielders and wingers over the last year. He has had a more offensive role this season, but that has not stopped him from working hard.
