Michigan State running back Jaren Mangham has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He only spent one season at Michigan State.

In his lone season with the Spartans, Mangham played in the final six games of the season after missing the first half of the season due to injury. Mangham finished the season with 30 carries for 81 yards and seven catches for 37 yards. He did not score a touchdown.

Before transferring to MSU, Mangham spent two seasons at USF. In 2022, Mangham only played in four games to preserves his option to redshirt. In his limited time on the field, Mangham tallied 24 carries for 104 yards and three scores.

In his first season at USF, Mangham started eight games and played in all 12 for the Bulls. He led USF in rushing with 671 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. For his efforts, he was named an All-AAC honorable mention.

Prior to joining USF, Mangham began his career at Colorado, where he spent two seasons. In his two years with the Buffaloes, Mangham amassed 16 appearances and one start. He was named to the Freshman All-Pac-12 team by SB Nation and given the team’s Lee Willard Award as the top freshman on offense.

Jaren Mangham played high school football at Cass Technical (MI), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 470 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Mangham is the 35th Michigan State player to enter the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign. The team currently sits at No. 60 in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Jonathan Smith excited for fresh start at Michigan State

Along with a new roster, Michigan State will be led by a new head coach this season. On Nov. 25, the program named Jonathan Smith its next head coach. He was previously the head coach at Oregon State for six seasons.

Despite Michigan State’s roster turnover, Smith is thrilled about taking over the program.

“I’ve got confidence in this move,” Smith said. “I cannot overstate the idea of transition of the family all the way over here. I cannot overstate how important and confident I think we are in this thing. We are confident in this thing and it’s so exciting to be here and really get started.”
