Man Utd fans all in agreement about Bruno Fernandes as he speaks out on future amid club’s clearout plans

Manchester United fans have made their feelings clear on Bruno Fernandes after the Portugal midfielder opened up about the uncertainty around his future at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes has established himself as a key figure in the Manchester United first team ever since his move from Sporting CP in 2020.

The 29-year-old United midfielder was a major acquisition for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the time, with the Red Devils paying an initial £47m to sign him.

Fernandes’ prominence in the first team was only further amplified last summer after United manager Erik ten Hag awarded him the captain’s armband.

However, the Portugal international’s leadership has come under question amid United’s lacklustre season, with Fernandes often criticised for his antics on the pitch.

Despite underperforming at times this season, Fernandes has managed to score 15 times and registered 11 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for United.

What did Fernandes say about his Man Utd future?

The Daily Telegraph on Monday dropped a bombshell report that claimed Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for ‘almost every player.’

It is believed that United trio Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are the only players that the club are not open to selling.

Bruno Fernandes and several other first-team players, including Marcus Rashford, could be sold if the right offers came in for them this summer.

The former Sporting CP midfielder is under contract with United until 2026, but even Fernandes has hinted that his long-term future might be away from Old Trafford.

Speaking to DAZN Portugal on Tuesday (via The Daily Mail), Fernandes admitted that talks over his future will be on hold until after Euro 2024 this summer.

“I’m not thinking about other things at the moment,” he said.

“Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it? A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides.”

Fernandes added: “I’m not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn’t been at the level I’d hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far.”

Man Utd fans react to Fernandes’ admission about his future

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were baffled that the Red Devils would consider Fernandes surplus to requirements.

One Red Devils supporter said it was an “absolute disgrace” that the Portugal midfielder was not named among the players who would not be sold.

Another United fan claimed no other player deserved a contract extension more than Fernandes, while another thinks the club captain is “tired of the disrespect.”

“I want United to be his last club. What a player,” one fan said.

Someone else commented: “I think he [is] tired of the disrespect but he will stay. He just wants the club to sign [the] right players [as] he loves [Man] Utd.”

A third added: “No-one, absolutely no-one, deserves a contract extension than Bruno Fernandes.”

While another tweeted: “It’s an absolute disgrace that he wasn’t named as a player not for sale. He has given everything for this team and he’s the only world-class player we have. They shouldn’t have made him feel like this, our captain and lead creator. So, f*****g annoying.”

And a fifth wrote: “If this brother went to a better club during the time he has been at United, he would probably be closer to winning the Ballon d’Or than [Kevin] De Bruyne!”

Somebody else said: “If Bruno left, United are done. Very typical of our fan base to hate on our better players. (De Gea, Ronaldo, Dalot, Bruno, Rashford) Then the team struggles and the fan base finds a new scapegoat.”

“The thought having crossed his mind alone is enough,” another simply stated.
