'Speaking to someone close': Why Kai Havertz decided to celebrate his goal against Chelsea - journalist

Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirates last week, handing Mauricio Pochettino his biggest defeat as Blues boss.

Former Chelsea player Kai Havertz scored twice and could not help but show his delight after his first goal.

Havertz, of course, won Chelsea the Champions League back in 2021 after netting in the final against Manchester City, making him a club legend to some.

However, the German had no problem with celebrating in Arsenal’s hammering of Chelsea after scoring the Gunners’ third goal in the London derby.

Havertz’s reception was nothing like Mason Mount’s when he returned to Stamford Bridge earlier this season, so why exactly did the 24-year-old celebrate against his old club?

Why Kai Havertz celebrated against Chelsea

This Chelsea team is not the one Havertz played in.

They are nowhere near as good, with Havertz’s Chelsea once being the best team in Europe, and have players who the Germany international has never shared a pitch with.

So not feeling like that was his Chelsea, according to journalist Simon Phillips, he had no problem celebrating against them.

On the Arsenal forward, he wrote on Substack: “Speaking to someone close to Havertz on his celebration, apparently Kai felt ‘it didn’t feel like the Chelsea he played for — he felt it when shaking hands with the players before the game — these were not his ex-teammates largely. He pretty much felt like he was playing against any other team. It’s not the club he once played for.’ “

How will Chelsea fans respond?

Chelsea and Arsenal have now played both of their league games against each other and are out of the FA Cup, so the two London teams will not meet again until next season.

Will Chelsea supporters boo Havertz then? Some fans will probably not forget how he celebrated against the club at a time where they have really struggled.

However, some will also not forget that the former Bayer Leverkusen man is the reason why Chelsea have two Champions League trophies — that is two more than Arsenal – so may be able to let what happened at the Emirates this season slide.

The club got good money for him as well. He is one of their most expensive ever sales.
