BBC presenter and Leicester City fan Gary Lineker has revealed the two matches he’s cried at.

Lineker graduated through Leicester academy and went on to amass over 100 appearances for the club, scoring 58 goals.

The presenter is still revered by the King Power Stadium faithful and is, without doubt, one of the most iconic players to have ever donned the blue strip.

The 63-year-old often talks about his love for the the East Midlanders on the various media channels he appears on and on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, he shared the two games that he’s cried at.

Lineker was asked if he’s ever cried at a football game and what the context was, and he replied: “I’ve cried, I definitely cried when Leicester won the league.

“I definitely cried when Leicester won the FA Cup as Alan (Shearer) was right next to me and I had to hand to Alan and I went ‘Alan help’ because I couldn’t speak.

“I thought of my dad suddenly and he watched Leicester play in four FA Cup finals and he died a year or two before and for some inexplicable reason during the coverage, I just said ‘I’m just thinking of my dad now’ and as soon as I said that I welled up and I thought ‘Al take over’.

Lineker continued: “When they won the league, I cried and I cried when Ranieri and (Andrea) Bocelli on the presentation day when Bocelli was singing and Ranieri was next to him, singing Nessun dorma and I went again then.

“That was in the office at Match of the Day and I cry a lot as you get older.”

Leicester City are on the march again

It’s been a chaotic yet brilliant 10-year period for Leicester fans, having won two promotions, one Premier League title, an FA Cup and multiple European endeavours, including in the Champions League.

Now, they are back in the Premier League again, after sealing the Championship title under the stewardship of Enzo Maresca.

The Foxes have the chance to clock up 100 points this weekend as they play host to Blackburn Rovers at the King Power.
