Arsenal make surprise decision on Gabriel Jesus' future - report

By Jude Summerfield

Arsenal are prepared to listen to offers for forward Gabriel Jesus during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a report.

The Gunners snared the Brazilian forward from Manchester City in 2022 and he proved a transformational arrival during his debut season at the Emirates Stadium before suffering a knee injury which ruled him out for the majority of the campaign.

However, while he has had to overcome the odd injury here and there so far in 2023/24, Jesus has only scored four Premier League goals compared to 11 last term and has dropped behind the in-form Kai Havertz in the striking pecking order under manager Mikel Arteta.

The Athletic now claim that, despite the 27-year-old Selecao forward having three years left on his current deal, Arsenal would listen if presentable offers arrive from clubs during the transfer window.

Jesus attracted jeers late last year when he admitted scoring goals is "not my strong point" despite his favoured position being the striker role, though he recently declared he is happy playing out wide to help his team.

He has been dogged by a knee injury since the 2022 World Cup, revealing in early April: "I don't remember the last time I played football without pain. I try to keep strong in mind."

His chances of breaking back into the starting XI have been limited by the stunning form of Havertz. The Germany international looks a natural fit up front for Arsenal and took his tally up to 12 league goals this season during the 3-2 north London derby success over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Jesus was an unused substitute in the win which protected the Gunners' lead at the top of the Premier League table, though Man City remain only a point behind with a game in hand.

Arsenal are next in action in Saturday's early kick-off when they battle Bournemouth at home.
