Conservative lawyer and outspoken Donald Trump critic George Conway appeared on MSNBC on Tuesday to recount his momentary stare down with former President Donald Trump in a Manhattan courtroom.

While being interviewed by MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle, Conway was asked about his experiences observing the trial with other reporters in the courtroom.

"Did Trump see you in the courtroom today," she asked. "You guys know each other."

"He did," Conway replied.

Conway said it was around 11 a.m. and the proceedings were on a break and he said the president paced through the center aisle and slowed for a second.

"I happened to have a seat on the aisle on the right-hand side and I am just sitting there and he is walking toward me and then he looks and sees me and gives me this kind of stink eye; this stink eye."

He continued: "I kind of just (making a smile) — I did not wave."

Ruhle then asked him, "But no words were exchanged?"

"No, I give him a little grin and he walked off," he said. "I didn't do anything. We are both very well-behaved people."

She then mused, "That is not true of either of you."

Tuesday's hearing featured Trump being found in violation of a gag order by New York Judge Juan Merchan, who fined him $9,000 for nine violations.

The former president was also warned that further violations could result in him being jailed.
