'Undoubtedly': Pundit now names Man City's 'toughest' game of the season - not the FA Cup final vs Man United

Andy Morrison has named the team that will provide the most difficult test to Manchester City in their remaining games this season.

Many would expect that to be Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Erik ten Hag has witnessed his side have a season to forget but regardless, he would be desperate to win his second trophy after the Carabao Cup during his debut campaign.

United would also be desperate to seek revenge after losing 2-1 to City in the final at Wembley Stadium last season.

Even last season, Pep Guardiola’s men were on course to win the treble and the gap between them and an improved Red Devils side was massive.

But the final was not the rout in Manchester City’s favour that some might have predicted it to be.

Instead, it was a nervy encounter where both teams were far from their best.

When the game was heading towards the end, Manchester United had taken the ascendancy as well.

Andy Morrison names the “toughest” game for Man City this season

However, City managed to protect their lead and set themselves with a date with destiny as they were one game away against Inter Milan from winning the treble.

As they say, the rest is history and against United, Manchester City could win the double.

However, that would only be the case if City beat Arsenal to the Premier League title, which is easier said than done as the Gunners have seemingly peaked at the right time.

Mikel Arteta’s side showed in back-to-back London derbies against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur that they are ready to face any tough tests that come their way.

As a result, if City do win the title, Guardiola may well be surprised by his team’s resilience once again when times get tough.

Currently, the Sky Blues’ priority will be the league.

Andy Morrison believes Manchester City have their biggest challenge awaiting them in travelling to North London and getting three points against Tottenham.

“Undoubtedly the toughest of our remaining games. Prior to the FA Cup tie earlier this season, we hadn’t even scored at Spurs’ new home but now we have, I expect that mental block to be lifted.”

“It might help if Spurs are out of contention for the top four but either way, we need to exploit their high line and come away with three points. I believe we will”, he said in May’s edition of the club’s official magazine.

Andy Morrison did predict Manchester City to beat Tottenham 3-1 when the two teams meet.

Recently, Micah Richards also made the same claim, as he felt Spurs’ counter-attacking threat could be a worry for the treble-winners.

Gary Neville also urged Arsenal and Liverpool less than two weeks ago to keep the pace with City before they faced Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Manchester City should play the game at their own face

In our view, Andy Morrison is spot on due to how poor the record Manchester City have against Tottenham away from home.

To beat Spurs, City will have to ensure that the game is played at their pace.

Often, when they have gone toe-to-toe with the Lilywhites over the years, they seem to play into their hands.

An end-to-end game ensues and City have a nightmare stopping a blistering Tottenham side, as was the case during their infamous two-legged quarter-final tie in the Champions League in the 2018/2019 season.

If the Sky Blues step onto the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to play the game at their own pace, Guardiola’s side would become overwhelming favourites to beat them.
