Manuel Akanji has said that he has loved working with one particular figure at Manchester City.
The defender is nearing the end of his second season with the Citizens after he arrived from Borussia Dortmund towards the end of the 2022 summer transfer window.
Now though, the 28-year-old has highlighted one person at the Manchester club he feels he has benefited from working with.
Akanji says he loves working with key Man City figure
Speaking in a recent video shared on the club’s official YouTube channel, Akanji had this to say when asked if working with Pep Guardiola has proved to be what he had hoped.
He said: “Yeah, especially on a football level.
“I came here at 27 and I still feel like I’ve learned so much.
“I think that’s not normal when you’re that age but with a manager like him, he really finds a lot of different ways to improve you as a player.
“It helped me a lot in getting better and that’s what I try to come here every day for, to try and get better.”
Akanji has been a top signing for City
Since making his £15m move to the Etihad Stadium, Akanji has made 91 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, chipping in with five goals along the way.
Just a few weeks after the centre-back arrived at the club, Guardiola said this about him.
He said: “He is a lovely guy, can play in different positions. Normally a central defender but (he can play) right-back, holding-midfield.
“He is open-minded, well-educated, so intelligent. It’s a joy to work with Manu every single day.”
This shows that both figures enjoy working with each other, which highlights how much of a good signing he’s been for the Manchester club.
In fact, with the Switzerland international featuring in numerous positions on the pitch at times this season, as Guardiola said he’s capable of doing back in October, this showcases the versatility he’s able to offer the £378k-a-week City manager.
