Ian Wright has a message for 'underrated' Manchester United legend who was 'easily one of the best'

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has just been handed a message by Ian Wright which fans will love to hear.

Gary Neville‘s name is one of the most under-respected players from the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have several club legends from this period of time, but due to the way Neville speaks about himself, many have been tricked into thinking he isn’t an all-time great right-back.

This has seen his incredible 12 Premier League triumphs disregarded as he is dismissed frequently in best Premier League XI’s.

But now, Ian Wright has sent Neville a message which speaks volumes.

What has Ian Wright said to Gary Neville?

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast on Wednesday morning, Wright was hosting for a change as Neville played the part of a guest.

Speaking to Neville, Wright had a message which was in response to the former right-back always talking himself down as a player.

Neville often diminishes his own achievements which in some ways is far too humble of him considering how great a player he was.

So in response to his, Wright had the following message.

“Gary [Neville] is so self-deprecating. He’s somebody that was, as a right-back, easily one of the best, one of the best I played against.

“Underrated. When people talk about you and your football career, you always bring it down…”

Manchester United legend Gary Neville deserves his flowers

It says a lot about the quality of United’s former No. 2, that with so many players who achieved success at Old Trafford over the years, Neville remains one of the most prominent names.

An academy graduate with the Class of 92‘, he’s forever etched into the history books and his longevity of playing for almost 20 years is history as it is.

Neville made 602 appearances for United and also 85 caps for England.

There’s little debate that he’s the Premier League’s best-ever right back.
