'Got the blueprint': Pundit says Man Utd star is at a crossroads, needs to avoid former teammate's career path

For one Manchester United player, this season has been a nightmare. Now Troy Deeney has warned him not to end up like one man.

Manchester United seem set for a busy summer as several names are expected to be on their way out of the club.

Players like Victor Lindelof and Casemiro are names we expected to be linked with moves elsewhere but two we weren’t expecting were Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has spoken out on his future already, but for Rashford there’s a sense he’s not safe from the potential summer cull.

Now, Troy Deeney has been speaking about both but for one man in particular he had a sharp warning.

Troy Deeney sends a sharp warning to Marcus Rashford

Former Watford striker Deeney was speaking on talkSPORT alongside Alan Brazil on Wednesday morning where he shared his concerns for Rashford.

He also explained that for Rashford, the biggest warning he can give is not to end up like a former teammate.

“I think he’s at a crossroads in his life, he’s got the blueprint of what will happen if he keeps going the way he is, which is Jesse Lingard.

“That’s one of his good mates, and I know Jesse very well.

“But he’s in a situation where you go, you can earn a lot of money and let your career dwindle and go abroad and end up being that guy where everyone goes, ‘you remember how good he was’.”

This is a fairly damning review of Rashford, however, it’s something that he cannot be too dismayed by given his poor season resembles a player on the downward slope.

Can Rashford get back to his best at Manchester United?

Right now there is such a feeling of negativity around Rashford and the club that it seems difficult to see him reaching the levels we saw in 2022-23.

Rashford is a player who thrives on confidence and he seems so low right now that he might need a different setting to help him fall in love with football again because this season he’s rarely looked like he wants to be there.

His quality is undoubtedly top class and nobody is questioning how good he can be on his day, however, the issue is his day doesn’t come anywhere near often enough.

The most important thing for Rashford will be who is appointed manager this summer, if it’s someone like Thomas Tuchel, he could be reinspired.
