'Top drawer': Jamie O'Hara says player Ange Postecoglou sold has been 'superb' since leaving Tottenham

Jamie O’Hara has heaped praise on a player who Ange Postecoglou sold at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Ange Postecoglou currently has Tottenham sitting fifth in the Premier League after consecutive defeats against Newcastle and Arsenal.

It would take a near-perfect run of form for Spurs to secure a top-four finish from here, with Aston Villa seven points out in front.

Regardless of whether Tottenham qualify for the Champions League, Postecoglou looks set for another busy summer as he continues to build a side in his image.

Plenty of the old guard have departed during the Aussie’s tenure already, including all-time top goalscorer Harry Kane.

While Postecoglou would have likely preferred to keep the England captain, it was evident certain players had no future under the former Celtic boss. And one player who left Spurs in January has impressed Jamie O’Hara in recent months.

O’Hara lauds Eric Dier after Tottenham exit

Eric Dier managed just four appearances under Postecoglou during the first half of the season.

This was during a spell when Spurs were short of options at centre-back due to injuries and suspensions.

Postecoglou even opted to use Emerson Royal and Ben Davies as a makeshift duo over starting Dier.

It’s fair to say that many were surprised when Dier secured a switch to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in January.

The 30-year-old has also raised eyebrows after nailing down a place in Thomas Tuchel’s side, starting over the likes of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae.

Dier played the full 90 minutes in last night’s Champions League semi-final as Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw against Madrid and his form has led to praise from O’Hara.

The former Tottenham man told talkSPORT: “What about Eric Dier? He was superb tonight, again. He played well.

“Vinicius Junior ends up going to play against Kim and he gave him the absolute run around. But Eric Dier, he’s been top drawer for Bayern Munich.”

Dier’s stats vs Real Madrid

Dier was Bayern’s joint-highest-rated defender in last night’s first-leg draw with Madrid.

While the Englishman clearly wasn’t suited to Postecoglou’s demands, he’s fitted in well at Bayern.

Here’s a closer look at Dier’s display against Madrid in numbers, via Sofascore.

  • 90 minutes played
  • 1 clearance
  • 3 blocked shots
  • 1 tackle
  • Zero times dribbled past
  • 1/ 2 ground duels won
  • 79/82 passes completed
  • 1 big chance missed
