Jamie Carragher says 21-year-old Liverpool transfer target more enjoyable to watch than Jude Bellingham

Liverpool fans would have been watching the Champions League semi-final game between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on Tuesday night with envy.

The heavyweight is the most played in that competition’s history and they delivered by producing a four-goal thriller in the first leg.

After missing out this season, Liverpool will be back where they belong next season and that is among Europe’s elite.

But it will be without their legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, who departs the club at the end of the season after lifting a sixth European trophy for the Reds in Madrid.

If and when the deal is signed, sealed and confirmed, then Arne Slot will be hoping to add his sprinkle of stardust to this club’s rich history in the competition.

If you perform on the Champions League stage, especially the knockout stages, then you know your quality as a footballer because, on the club scene, there isn’t a higher platform.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are blessed with some of the world’s best talents and they locked horns at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night. From Vinicius Jr to Leroy Sane and Harry Kane to Rodrygo.

But one Liverpool transfer target stood above all for Carragher and that was Jamal Musiala after he won the penalty for Kane to score his side’s second goal of the game.

The former centre-back labelled the 21-year-old as ‘unique’, whilst comparing him to none other than Diego Maradona and how he enjoys watching Musiala play more than Jude Bellingham, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (30/04/24 at 10:05 pm).

Fabrizio Romano delivered a transfer update last month and shared that Liverpool are monitoring Musiala’s situation in Munich.

As of this moment, the English-born German international doesn’t know who his manager will be next season, with Thomas Tuchel set to leave at the end of the campaign.

All in all, before and after the game against Madrid, Carragher was doing nothing but speak in glowing terms about the man in the middle for Munich.

Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham

“He is unique, so you don’t see players in central areas dribble like that,” said Carragher. “You just don’t see it. Jude Bellingham, who is a fantastic player, is completely different (to Musiala).

“Very few players, if any in European football now, are doing this. It takes you back to watching Maradona as a kid when you see players going past players. Two sensational players (Bellingham and Musiala), but they are different, aren’t they?!

On Musiala’s performance v Real Madrid: “I love watching him play and for the national team. I probably enjoy watching him play more than I watch Jude Bellingham. Jude is almost powerful, with his charisma and aura. Everything about it him. But what we have seen Musiala do. Somebody who can actually dribble. I am not talking about a winger going past a fullback on the outside. It’s different from a central area.”

A certain Michael Edwards is back at Anfield, so fans are eagerly excited to see him work his magic again and bring in his top players to the club.

If Edwards’ second spell goes as well as his first, then it will help Slot massively because, given who he is going to replace, he will need it.

A player like Musiala would be a dream for Liverpool’s midfield and he would bring that much-needed calmness to the final third

In recent weeks, fans have witnessed how that ruthless edge and calm head has been missing in the final third and you feel it will need to be addressed in the summer.
