William Gallas names £27m Arsenal star as 'the best' in his position in the Premier League

William Gallas has named one Arsenal star as ‘the best’ in his position this season in the Premier League.

The Gunners have statistically been the best team in the English top-flight this campaign. Arsenal have scored the most goals out of any team, as well as conceding the fewest and keeping the most clean sheets to boot.

Sitting top of the table by one point, Arsenal have their best chance in years to win the Premier League title. But Manchester City still have a good shot at claiming a fourth successive title if they win their game in hand later this month.

Arsenal’s William Saliba named ‘the best’ Premier League defender this season

Gallas has picked William Saliba as the best defender in the Premier League this season, with the French international playing every league minute for Arsenal this term.

Signed for £27m back in 2019 by Unai Emery, Saliba has flourished this season having avoided injury and establishing himself as arguably Europe’s best young defender, as well as one of the best in the Premier League.

And former Arsenal defender Gallas has been impressed with what he has seen from his fellow countryman, with Saliba showing why he could star in defence for Mikel Arteta’s side for many years to come.

Gallas said, via quotes by Chris Wheatley, when asked to give his pick on who has been the best centre-back this year in the Premier League: “I will put William Saliba as the best defender in the Premier League this season.”

Saliba has been nothing short of a revelation since integrating into the Arsenal first-team set-up last season, with the defender now easily one of the best in all of the Premier League.

And at his current pace, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Saliba was soon considered one of the best in the world, with the 23-year-old having everything needed to become a defensive icon in the game.

Indeed, Saliba’s performances have saved Arsenal numerous points this season, and the Gunners can’t thank their lucky stars enough for their decision to sign the defender when he was a teenager.
