Former detective blasts Met Police 'scandal' amid calls for officers to be armed: 'The bloodshed continues!'

Former Metropolitan Police detective Peter Bleksley has hit out at the "scandal" rocking the force, as another stabbing incident struck the UK.

This comes as a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder in Sheffield, after an incident involving "broken glass" at a school.

Reacting to the incident in Sheffield, following a sword attack in Hainault on Tuesday, Bleksley warned GB News that the "bloodshed continues" and the "loss of life and heartache is affecting the length and breadth of the country".

In a discussion with host Martin Daubney, Bleksley claimed that predominantly, knife crime is on the rise in London, and called for action from the Met.

Bleksley explained: "I welcome more stop and search. That cannot happen quickly enough. From a policing perspective, that is the most important tool that they have at their disposal.

"But of course, each and every time they launch stop and search operations, there is resistance from certain pockets of particular communities."

Martin highlighted the action taken by police on Tuesday in Hainault, as the sword-wielding suspect was tasered to the ground, before being detained.

Martin told Bleksley: "He was tasered to the ground, and that tasering surely, perhaps, saved further lives."

When asked by Martin how police officers feel about being armed with tasers, Bleksley admitted that he believes "all frontline officers should be armed" with them.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Bleksley told GB News: "All frontline response police officers should, as a matter of urgency, be trained in the use and issued with a taser throughout the country.

"It is quite scandalous that they're not. Our police officers, our courageous frontline police officers are not cannon fodder. They are being assaulted in record numbers.

Bleksley fumed: "And it is absolutely just a scandal. We need to protect them. There is a duty of care from chief constables and commissioners to protect their frontline staff.

"And the best thing that they can do in a fairly short space of time is to issue them all with tasers."

Speaking outside the Sheffield school on Wednesday afternoon, Assistant Chief Constable Dan Thorpe said officers were called to the scene around 9am this morning.

He said: "Two adults suffered minor injuries, one from a sharp object which is believed to be broken glass.

"The child was assaulted and thankfully has no visible injuries. But I know this will have been a frightening ordeal for everyone involved."
