Reporter claims Tottenham no longer want to sign 23-year-old striker despite North London visit

Tottenham Hotspur will have to make a decision on Timo Werner without seeing him in action this month.

Werner arrived on loan from RB Leipzig in January, securing a surprise Premier League return with Spurs.

The German had failed to really impress during a spell at Chelsea but Tottenham took a chance on him.

Werner has mostly played down the left flank and showed some promise in Ange Postecoglou’s setup.

Tottenham have a £15million option to buy on Werner but the evaluation on him has become a little trickier.

Werner picked up a hamstring injury against Arsenal on Sunday and will now miss the rest of the season.

Werner’s Tottenham future is now up in the air and Spurs will be considering other attacking additions.

Santiago Gimenez played down

One of the main names in the media over recent weeks has been Feyenoord hitman Santiago Gimenez.

Reports in March suggested that Tottenham had made contact over a potential deal for Gimenez.

Tongues were wagging earlier this week as Gimenez visited Tottenham to watch the North London derby against Arsenal.

However, The Sun’s Tom Barclay now claims on social media that Spurs sources are ‘playing down’ any interest in Gimenez.

It’s suggested that Gimenez simply isn’t a target anymore – and we can’t say were aren’t surprised.

Gimenez is a quality striker and has been a menace to Eredivisie defences during his time at Feyenoord.

The problem is that Gimenez has seen his form take a real nosedive since the turn of the year.

Gimenez has managed just four goals and one assist across 18 games in 2024, a drop in form that few could have predicted.

Whilst we still rate Gimenez, it’s no huge surprise that Tottenham may be stepping back a little.

Gimenez links still lingering

Barclay is confident that Tottenham are backing away but there are lingering links elsewhere.

Reporter Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham are the ‘most likely’ team to sign Gimenez this summer.

Jacobs believes that Tottenham are ‘one to watch’ in the race for Gimenez given that he would cost less than most other top strikers on the market.

Gimenez attending Sunday’s game was always going to spark rumours but Feyenoord had a weekend off and he may have just wanted to take in a game.

Tottenham may still have Gimenez on the radar but unless he can find his form again, Spurs may look elsewhere and avoid the potential of another Vincent Janssen situation.
