'I like him': Jose Mourinho says he's a big fan of manager Liverpool reportedly rejected

Jose Mourinho has delivered his verdict on a manager Liverpool were linked with appointing as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

The Reds spent over three months looking for a new manager.

Replacing Klopp was never going to be easy, and Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes had to work really hard to find the next man for the job.

There is no confirmation yet, but it looks like Arne Slot is the chosen one. Fabrizio Romano revealed this week that a deal has been completed to appoint the Dutchman as Liverpool’s next manager.

It will be interesting to see how Slot will fare in the Premier League, but before he became the man for the job, another manager seemed like the favourite.

Mourinho has had his say on him now.

Jose Mourinho delivers verdict on Ruben Amorim after Liverpool snub him

Ruben Amorim was heavily linked with the Liverpool job before Arne Slot came into the picture.

The 39-year-old has done an amazing job at Sporting Lisbon, and many felt he was the perfect choice to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Amorim was even described as the favourite to become the next Liverpool manager, but after his trip to England to hold talks with West Ham, Liverpool cooled their interest.

Slot is now all set to become the next Liverpool manager, and Amorim is unlikely to even get the West Ham United job this summer.

Amorim, however, is still very highly rated as a manager, and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves Sporting Lisbon for another club.

Jose Mourinho, who is one of the greatest football minds of this generation, was asked about Amorim, and he delivered a glowing verdict on his compatriot.

While speaking to the local press at an event in Portugal, Mourinho said, as per Mais Futebol: “It’s also a question I shouldn’t answer, but what can I tell you? I like him as a person, I like him as a coach.

“I think he’s capable of coaching in any league and he’s capable of coaching at any club. But he’s in a good league and he’s at a great club.

“It’s his decision and it will be, or not, up to the clubs that want him or don’t want him or want to convince him, with more or less arguments.

“What’s clear from me is that I like the person and I like the coach.”

What really happened between Ruben Amorim and Liverpool?

Ruben Amorim and Liverpool seemed destined to join forces just a few weeks ago.

The 39-year-old seemed to be the frontrunner for the job, but all of a sudden, Liverpool rejected the opportunity to appoint him.

The Reds have turned to Arne Slot now, but what really happened between Liverpool and Amorim that led to this?

Well, Dean Jones has claimed that Amorim’s meeting with West Ham United ‘really annoyed’ Liverpool and some of his demands didn’t go down well at Anfield either.

That crushed his chances of getting the Liverpool job.

Jones said: “It was silly, mate, he shouldn’t have gone into those discussions, that really annoyed Liverpool. It was silly.

“He put some demands on Liverpool. Liverpool didn’t want to be spoken to like that, and they set out what they’d pay a manager and what they’d be interested in.

“Then he goes to West Ham, a job he’s, by all accounts, not that interested in, hoping that Liverpool would come back to him, but Liverpool have been like ‘seriously, no.’ and they’ve moved on from him.”
