‘It was strange’: Sky pundit can’t believe what Arne Slot has already said about Liverpool

Unless you have been living under a rock since the turn of the year, Arne Slot is heading to Liverpool.

Before the start of the season, one of the last things fans would have predicted was for Jurgen Klopp to be leaving and then to be replaced by someone most of the fanbase wouldn’t have heard of.

In truth, at the end of last season, Arne Slot had won the Eredivisie title with Feyenoord and he was being linked with the Tottenham manager’s job.

So, from that perspective, he was on a high and he was being talked about in certain parts of Europe.

But fast forward to the present and it’s only a matter of time before Liverpool announces him as their new coach.

The 45-year-old himself has addressed these rumours and stated that he wants the job, so it’s only a matter of when he is announced and not if.

But how he has approached all of this hasn’t sat well with Stephen Warnock.

One of the things Slot has spoken about is ‘the compensation package’ and Liverpool paying that to Feyenoord for his services.

Warnock stated that it’s ‘strange’ from the Dutchman and he ‘doesn’t like’ how he has approached this, as he told The Football Show on Sky Sports.

At the end of the day, he is still the manager of Feyenoord, so it will be interesting to see how their fans are feeling about all of this.

Arne Slot interview

“Yes, I probably was surprised,” said Warnock about Slot coming in. “I think he suits the Liverpool model as to where they are.

“I didn’t like the interview he did last week. I thought it was a strange interview where he was talking about leaving Feyenoord, the compensation package and that being paid. I am thinking ‘you are still effectively the Feyenoord manager’. Jurgen Klopp is still in a job. I wasn’t a huge fan of that interview. I thought it was poor.

“I do like what I see from him, little things tactically and the way he comes across in the media. Taking away that interview he did, I like his interviews and I like the way he speaks. I think he is charismatic. I think he is a big personality. You have to be a big personality to go in and fill Klopp’s shoes. He feels like he can do that. Has he got enough experience in the game? I think he has only been a manager now for seven and a half years. That’s a big question to go into Liverpool. However, are you ever ready to go into Liverpool? That’s one of the big things and he will back himself.”

Arne Slot in the Premier League

Many things are going to be going against Slot, with one of them being that Dutch managers don’t do well in the Premier League.

Just look at Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and the struggles he is going through at Old Trafford.

Not only that, Slot will have to replace Klopp, and even if an experienced and trophy-winning coach came in, he would still find it difficult to fill the shoes of such a legendary figure.

That’s why Ally McCoist was quick to shut down what he was hearing about Slot, as the incoming manager faces a huge task just to challenge for the title next season.
