'If he will be ready': 21-year-old Inter Miami player could now be out injured for longer - journalist

Inter Miami could reportedly be without an injured star player for longer than expected having already been ruled out for six weeks.

The Herons have been plagued with injury problems this season with Lionel Messi already spending a month out with a hamstring problem as star teenager Benjamin Cremaschi only now returning to action after a sports hernia.

With Leonardo Campana and Robert Taylor making their comebacks this weekend against the New England Revolution, Inter Miami are only now seeing their injured players return, with Federico Redonodo due back soon.

Inter Miami star Diego Gomez an injury doubt for the Copa America

According to the Miami Herald’s Michelle Kaufman, Diego Gomez could now be a doubt for the Copa America having originally been slated to return for Inter Miami before the summer tournament.

Gomez was initially ruled out for six weeks after picking up an ankle injury against Nashville SC at the end of April, yet it now appears that the 21-year-old midfielder could be out for even longer.

Indeed, whilst Gomez could now be fit in time for the Olympics in Paris, the youngster missing the Copa America would be a huge blow given how exciting the Paraguay international is.

Kaufman said when asked about Inter Miami’s latest injury news: “Diego Gomez, I don’t know if he will be ready still for the Copa America, but maybe for the Olympics.”

Gomez injury update could have massive ramifications

Gomez being out for longer than expected could have a big impact for both the player and Inter Miami in more terms than just returning to MLS action this summer.

With the transfer window fast approaching, Gomez is already believed to be a target for European clubs, with the 21-year-old one of many Inter Miami players who could make the move this summer across the Atlantic.

And if Gomez misses the Copa America, the youngster could miss out on a dream move to Europe due to a lack of minutes on the international stage, even if the midfielder makes the Olympics.
