The US State Department has imposed new sanctions against the Russian Federation. This time, restrictions were introduced specifically regarding the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine, according to the US State Department website.
Today, May 1st, the United States imposed sanctions on over 280 individuals and entities to impose additional costs on Russia for both its external aggression and internal repression.
As part of this action, the State Department imposes sanctions on over 80 individuals and entities, including those involved in:
- Developing Russia's future energy sector
- Metals
- Mining industry and export capabilities
- Evading and circumventing sanctions
- Enhancing Russia's capacity to wage war against Ukraine.
The Department also imposed sanctions on three Russian state organizations associated with Russian chemical and biological weapons programs, and four Russian companies that contributed to these organizations.
"The United States will continue to use the tools at its disposal to disrupt support for Russia’s military-industrial base and curtail Russia’s use of the international financial system to further its war against Ukraine," the US State Department said in a statement.
US sanctions against Russia
Earlier today, the US Department of the Treasury released a list of new sanctions against Russia. One of the largest Russian airlines is among those affected by the restrictions.

In response, according to Western media reports, Russia decided to rename the oil tankers that fell under US sanctions.
