What Ange Postecoglou has now said about Tottenham signing Timo Werner this summer

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now been speaking about whether the club may sign winger Timo Werner this summer.

It has certainly been a turbulent season for Tottenham in their first campaign under their new boss Ange Postecoglou.

The season could not have started much better but the defeat to Chelsea in November sparked a downward spiral when it comes to injuries.

Players such as Micky van de Ven and James Maddison have both suffered long term injuries this season which have stretched Postecoglou’s options.

But Daniel Levy has shown signs of providing the Australian with what he needs in the transfer windows having brought in Timo Werner at a time when Spurs were short on forwards.

The German will now miss the remaining games of the season after picking up a hamstring injury in the North London Derby on the weekend.

And Postecoglou has now given some further insight as to whether the club will be considering making the 28-year-old’s stay permanent over the coming months.

Ange Postecoglou issues Timo Werner comments ahead of the summer transfer window

The RB Leipzig forward was brought in during the January window with Heung-min Son away representing South Korea.

Spurs signed Werner on a short-term loan deal with the option to make it permanent over the summer for a fee of £15m.

However, reports have recently suggested that Spurs could look to seek a loan extension from the Bundesliga club.

Either way, he will not be taking to the pitch for any of Tottenham’s remaining five Premier League games this season.

Although Werner has only had a matter of months to show what he can do in what has been a stuttering Spurs side, the club must soon come to a decision on his future.

Speaking from Hotspur Way on Wednesday ahead of tonight’s trip to Stamford Bridge, the Australian commented on Werner’s time at Spurs.

“I think he’s been very good for us. He came in at a really important time in January when Sonny was away, then Richy got an injury. We were short in wide areas,” he said.

“Him coming in was very helpful for us and I think he’s made an impact but in my mind to make those definitive decisions, I still need some clarity about what we’ve got here first.”

Interesting stats that show Tottenham could look to sign Timo Werner

When it comes to taking the man on, Werner has showed a lot of positive things in a Spurs shirt this season from the left wing.

With Son playing through the middle a lot during the second half of the season, the German has had some big boots to fill.

And he has fared well on the left with the 28-year-old showing some of the qualities which could see him become a Spurs player permanently.

However, the issues lie in his finishing with the German having already squandered five big chances since returning to the Premier League in January.

At £15m, Spurs could probably do a lot worse with a season in Europe likely ahead of him but they will have to swallow the cons that come with Werner if they are to sign him.
