Arsenal and Newcastle United among three teams leading race for £75m midfield 'monster'

Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Bayern Munich are now set to battle it out this summer for one midfield signing.

Arsenal will need to make at least one addition to their ranks in the middle of the park in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Whilst Arsenal have offered Jorginho a new contract, he is in the twilight of his career and can’t be relied upon to start games week in, week out. Equally, the Gunners can’t rely upon the availability of Thomas Partey due to his recurrent injury issues.

Mikel Arteta will want to bring in additional cover and support for Declan Rice this summer. With Kai Havertz now having established himself as the North London club’s first-choice striker, there is a vacancy in the midfield contingent.

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal are now in the hunt to sign Everton star Amadou Onana. The Gunners will likely face competition from Newcastle United and Bayern Munich for the signature of the Belgian ace, who is thought to be available for a figure around £75 million.

Why Arsenal want Amadou Onana

Onana has been a regular for the Toffees throughout this season, but lost his starting berth in recent weeks. However, his quality and potential are undeniable. The 22-year-old has been described as a “monster duel-winner” by analyst Raj Chohan on X.

There is still rawness to Onana’s game, which is understandable given his age. He does not always make the right decision on the ball, in terms of picking his passes, and he has room to improve in the final third.

His attributes are obvious, though. He is fierce in the tackle, boasts rapid pace and impressive physical traits, and reads the game and positions himself well to break up opposition attacks. Onana would bring more power to the spine of the Arsenal team, and Arteta will feel confident in his ability to take the 11-cap Belgium international to the next level.

Arsenal could spark transfer market chain reaction with interest in Amadou Onana and Bruno Guimaraes

Onana is not the only potential midfield signing that the Gunners are currently considering.

Arsenal are known to hold an interest in Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes.

If Arteta makes the Brazilian his top priority, then given the Magpies’ interest in Onana, there could be a transfer market chain reaction that sees Guimaraes make the switch to North London, and Onana then move to take his place at St James’ Park.
