Graeme Souness has noticed something unusual about Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp lately

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has noticed something unusual about Jurgen Klopp lately.

Liverpool have seen their Premier League title aspirations dashed in recent weeks, having won one of their last five games.

The Merseysiders were on course for a quadruple not so long ago but now it seems they’ll be ending the season with just a League Cup to show, which will be bitterly disappointing for Klopp ahead of his farewell this summer.

Five points separates them from Arsenal at the summit with just three games to play, so it’d take an extraordinary set of results to turn it around from this point.

Souness, speaking on the Three Up Front podcast, made an interesting point about the Liverpool boss’ demeanour.

“When you look at Jurgen, he looks shot. He looks like he has been dragged through a hedge backwards after a game,” the 70-year-old said.

“He really is feeling it, I think he does need a rest. Managing that football club is a big number. It’s pressure on, expectation level is enormous and they have promised so much this year.

“I thought whoever gets this job is walking into a really healthy situation. You have a few players injured who didn’t take part in the League Cup final, you have all these kids who have played in it and they still managed to get a result.”

Souness continued: “The kind of players they have got, there’s only Salah who was outstanding this year in terms of getting him to sign another contract, but I’m not sure if that’s the case any more.

“But I have to change my mind. These players have shown something I didn’t believe they were capable of.”

Liverpool need additions in the summer transfer window

It’s set to be a big window at Anfield this summer, with the rumoured incoming manager Arne Slot keen to imprint his own identity.

It’s become pretty evident of late that The Reds aren’t quite at the same level calibre-wise as Arsenal and Manchester City.

With Salah misfiring, the onus has been on the other forwards to deliver and they’ve not produced in all honesty.

So perhaps, whilst there is depth, the forward ranks need to be added to, with a real goalscoring winger out on the left to share the load with Salah, if he remains at the club this summer.

There are still strong rumours linking the Egyptian winger to the Saudi Pro League, so there’s no guarantee he will be here come August.
