‘Enormous’: Graeme Souness says ‘world-class’ Liverpool player would be unreal in Man City’s team

Graeme Souness has said that one particular Liverpool player would get into Manchester City’s team.

At the end of the season, the Reds will see Jurgen Klopp leave his role as their manager after spending nine years in charge of the team.

Now though, one pundit and former Liverpool star has highlighted a specific player at the Merseyside club, who has been a key figure for Klopp over recent years, that he feels would walk into Pep Guardiola’s City side.

In a recent edition of Three Up Front, Souness had this to say when asked if Mohamed Salah would get into the current City and Arsenal teams.

He said: “I think he would get in both teams.

“I think in his period at Liverpool you have to say he’s been world-class. I think he gets in anyone’s team.

“Goals change games and people talk about who is the best player you ever played with, the way I would want to ask that question is who is the most influential player in that team.

“Now goals do influence games so he has had an enormous influence in the last five or six years.”

Liverpool signed the winger from Roma during the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £34m.

Since then, the Egyptian has gone on to make 346 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, scoring 210 goals and delivering 88 assists along the way.

Mohamed Salah has shown what he’s capable of this season

With 17 goals scored in 29 Premier League appearances this season, Salah has racked up the third-highest-rate of shots on target per 90 minutes in the division.

This highlights how much of a dangerous figure he is for opposition defences.

Taking that into account and the number of goals he’s scored for Liverpool, it’s easy to see why Souness thinks Salah would be a top addition to City’s team.

In our view, while it seems unlikely that the 31-year-old would ever make a move to the Manchester club, we feel that it takes more than just being a goal threat to be a valuable figure in Guardiola’s ranks.
