'From what I understand': Journalist shares whether Everton will be docked further points this season

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has shared whether he thinks Everton will be docked further points by the Premier League this season.

A remarkable report from The Guardian on Wednesday shared the stark financial reality facing the club with 777 Partners’ takeover still in the balance.

It’s believed Everton have called in leading restructuring and insolvency advisers, which has raised further questions over the Miami-based firm’s ability to purchase the club.

Furthermore, it’s understood the club made the move whilst still waiting on a further £15million of loans pledged by 777 in April.

The current scenario has raised genuine questions about how the club will be funded between now and the end of the season.

A further storyline emerged after the US investment group saw their Australian regional airline Bonzo call in the receivers on Tuesday.

Further reports suggest Everton face the possibility of administration and a nine-point deduction.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday morning, chief football correspondent Crook has shed further light on whether Everton will fall into administration this season and face further docked points.

He explained: “I think anybody who’s done any research into 777 Partners would’ve been sceptical right from the off. I think there’s a big doubt over whether they would pass the Premier League’s owners and directors test.

“I think that’s why there’s been such a delay. From what I understand, they’re [Everton] confident that if they go into administration, it won’t be this season, which would stave off the threat of a nine-point penalty, which would obviously put them back in relegation danger once again.

“There’s a concern that maybe come to the start of next season if the takeover hasn’t gone through but to go into administration and take that automatic nine-point penalty.”

The signs don’t look good for 777 Partners and Everton

The signs really don’t look good. 777 Partners’ reputation is currently in tatters. It feels like nearly every week, Evertonians are made aware of another financial mismanagement from their potential new owners.

Presently, the takeover appears extremely unlikely.Everton News has been told exclusively by journalist Graeme Bailey that the chances of 777 taking control are fading.

With the takeover teetering on the edge, there have also been suggestions of some big-name departures occurring this summer. On Wednesday, Jordan Pickford was linked with a move to Chelsea.

It’s getting to a point where Evertonians need to know whether the takeover is on or off. When the fate of the club is known, plans can then be made heading into what is a crucial pre-season and summer window.
